I specialised in optimisation and machine learning, with a particular
interest in graph neural networks. My studies developed my understanding
of mathematical modelling, probability, statistics and computational
methods, and how they can be applied to complex real-world systems.
Master’s thesis
Using Graph Neural Networks to Predict the Spread of COVID-19
Within Imperial Hospitals
I investigated the monitoring and prediction of infectious-disease
transmission within a hospital network. The project applied graph
convolutional neural networks to ward-level data covering five Imperial
hospitals during 2020.

Represented relationships between hospital wards as a network evolving
across both space and time. -
Proposed an architecture designed to learn from pandemic and endemic
phases of the data. -
Explored temporal training and testing methods inspired by signal
processing. -
Studied the mathematical foundations of graph convolutional and
recurrent neural networks and assessed their suitability for the data.
Earlier academic research
During my first year, I modelled the spread of COVID-19 using stochastic
and deterministic methods, working with limited early-pandemic data to
investigate broader infection trends. This project helped establish my
interest in simulation, network models and computational research.
Leadership and university involvement

Helped organise the RCSU Autumn Ball for more than 1,000 attendees,
coordinating ticketing, suppliers, venue staff and security. -
Represented students in the Faculty of Natural Sciences at union
meetings and contributed to decisions affecting the faculty. -
Managed ticketed merchandise, supplier relationships and product
inventory for the society.

Led the student society representing Imperial’s mathematics community.

Represented my cohort for three years, raising feedback about teaching,
examinations and the transition to online learning. I also contributed
to student panels, prospective lecturer interviews and departmental

Peer Tutor
November 2022 – May 2023
Supported two groups of six first-year mathematics students with
university life and foundational subjects including analysis, linear
algebra and computing. I combined academic guidance with practical
advice drawn from my own experience.

Distinctions and involvement

Placed second nationally in the 2018 Weizmann Institute Physics
Competition and was invited to Israel for the international final. -
Organised physics and chemistry mentoring for students aged 15–16,
coordinating a team of up to 20 mentors. - Awarded the Chemistry Prize in 2018.
